Second Venetian edition of Giovanni Domenico Mansi's Latin translation of Antoine Augustin Calmet's dictionary of the Holy Scriptures, perhaps the most famous and meticulous exegetical, historical and geographical dictionary of the Holy Scriptures produced. Folio, 2 volumes bound in full vellum with morocco spine labels, all edges speckled red, elaborately illustrated with full-page woodcut engravings, folding maps, printers device to the title page. In very good condition. French Benedictine monk Antoine Augustin Calmet was one of the most distinguished members of the Congregation of St. Vanne. In 1704, he was commissioned to explain the holy scriptures in the Abbey of Moyenmoutier and Munster Abbey and the result is now regarded as one of the most famous and meticulous historical, geographical, and exegetical dictionaries of the Holy Scriptures produced.
