About This Item

This is a 5-volume lot of DICKENS' WORKS, published in 1900 by Peter Fenelon Collier & Son New York.

The original set was 30 volumes. A limited edition was leather-bound; the rest were bound in burgundy cloth.

This is five of the volumes of that set.

All are plain, with bright gilt printing on the side panels. Each book is 6" x 8".

Volume XVIII

Christmas Books & Miscellaneous: The Haunted House in Two Chapters & The Ghost in Master B.'S Room.

with Full-Page Frontipsiece & 26 Illustrations

568 pages

This book does not appear to have been read. The back and side panels are perfect; the front has a couple of scratches.

Front endpaper signed W.J. Barrett-Lennard 1901.

Volume XIX

Sketches by Boz

with Full-Page Frontipsiece & 31 Illustrations

568 Pages

The corners are whitened, as if someone tried to clean them.

Spine has pulled away slightly in a couple of places, from drying.

Front endpaper signed W.J. Barrett-Lennard 1901.

Volume XXIV

Pictures from Italy, The Uncommercial Traveler

with Full-Page Frontipsiece & 30 Illustrations

608 pages

There are no marks of any kind anywhere; I don't think this book was read. But, at the front, the spine has pulled away a little.

Covers are in superb condition

Front endpaper signed W.J. Barrett-Lennard.

Volume XXVII

American Notes & Reprinted Pieces

with Full-Page Frontispiece & 12 Illustrations

490 pages

Side Panel is Perfect

Back Panel is perfect except for a tiny dark mark on the top; it can be cleaned off but I don't want to tamper with it. The front cover has a faint water mark near the spine (see provenance).

Front endpaper signed W.J. Barrett-Lennard.

Volume XXVIII

A Child's History of England

with Full-Page Frontipsiece & 13 Illustrations

489 Pages

Covers are in near-perfect condition.

Front endpaper signed W.J. Barrett-Lennard

There is a mark on Page 7, the Table of Contents; otherwise perfect. I don't think this book was read.

Condition

The books are darker than they appear in the first image; I took the picture under a bright lamp. All have normal shelf wear at the edges of the side panels, and normal spot fading. But they are in near-perfect condition.

Provenance

All books are signed W.J. Barrett-Lennard, 1901 (except one, which is missing the date).

Barrett-Lennard was the great-grandson of Sir Thomas Barrett-Lennard, 1st Baronet Barrett-Lennard, of Belhus, Essex.

Note: The price includes the high cost of postage, as long as you're in Canada or the Continental US.
