Culpeper, VA: The Community Press, 1965. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. A solid copy of the 1965 1st edition of this highly-celebrated debut work by photographer Dave Heath. Tight and Near Fine in its oatmeal cloth, with just the faintest touch of light wear at the rear panel's lower-edge. And in a bright, price-intact ($6.50), VG to VG+ dustjacket, with light to mid-level soiling to the panels and light creasing along the rear panel's lower-edge. Mild wear as well at the lower front flap-fold. Still though, very presentable and, internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. Quarto, crisp, highly-evocative black-and-white photos thruout.

Description:
Simon Lowinsky, May 6 - June 28, 1997. First edition, first printing. Catalog. Dave Heath has shot perhaps one of the most seminal photographs in Beat history of a young poet Janine Pommy Vega sitting alone in The Seven Arts Cafe as Heath would describe "with the sadness of her thoughts, about to drink from the ethereal white cup of bitter tears and honeyed mead, on the brink of poet hood". No better description for the young poet Janine Pommy Vega. Heath with his terrific eye that he showcased in at least two seminal photography books. We offer here "A Dialogue with Solitude", in its catalog form from an exhibition that would be showcased in 1997. Michael Torosian will write an appreciation for the catalog. Dave Heath was a friend of Janine Pommy Vega from her earliest years in New York City; he lived from 1931-2016. Tipped in, this wonderful handwritten letter form Heath to Janine Pommy Vega, written on both sides of the page, 8.5 x 11 in neat handwriting describing his work in… Read More
