Il n'y va pas par quatre chemins, lorsque vous suivez les pensées présentées dans ce livre, vous deviendrez riches, sans éprouver un sentiment de culpabilité. En fait, l'auteur écrit que ceux touchés par la pauvreté (et même les classes moyennes) devraient être ceux qui se sentent coupables de ne pas vivre à la hauteur de leur véritable potentiel en tant qu'Êtres Pensants.Wattles dit que son livre est « à l'attention des hommes et des femmes dont le besoin le plus pressant est l'argent; qui souhaitent d'abord devenir riches, et philosopher ensuite. Il est pragmatique et non pas philosophique; un guide pratique, pas beaucoup de théorie. Il est pour ceux qui, jusqu'ici, n'ont trouvé ni le temps, ni les moyens, ni l'opportunité d'étudier à fond la métaphysique, mais qui veulent des résultats prospères et qui sont prêts à prendre les conclusions de la science comme base de leur action. »Wattles mourut peu après la publication en 1910 de "Devenir Riche : Une Science Exacte", mais son livre, de même que ceux d'un autre écrivain renommé de cette époque, Orison Swett Marden, ont eu un effet remarquable sur les gens, et beaucoup de succès et d'auto-développement de la littérature des 100 dernières années par des gens comme Napolean Hill, Robert Schuller, anthony Robbins, etc., doivent beaucoup à ces deux écrivains.
