Aldine Publishing Company Book. Very Good. Cloth. 2nd Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Blue cloth with gilt lettering/ design to the spine. From the Aldine Illustrated Library of One Hundred Best Books. This copy is VG. Exterior has moderate wear to top of spine, modestly rubbed covers, but only minimal wear to edges/ tips. Gilt is clear though a bit faded. Inside is unmarked, crisp, and tight with moderate toning. Top edges gilt.No date, no copyright page. Preface is to the Second edition, 1874.Illustrated. SCARCE as this is the only such "Aldine" found on Abe as of December 2021..
Synopsis
The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex is a book on evolutionary theory by English naturalist Charles Darwin, first published in 1871. It was Darwin's second great book on evolutionary theory, following his 1859 work, On The Origin of Species. In The Descent of Man, Darwin applies evolutionary theory to human evolution, and details his theory of sexual selection.
