London: Arco Publications with Bernard Hanison, 1959. Bound in the publishers black cloth binding with gilt title lettering to the spine. This is the First Edition thus of this excellent Jules Verne title. The 170 pages remain in fresh, clean condition with no inscriptions or foxing and are squarely bound. Text is sharp and clear and the book sits square and solid. Housed in the colourful dustwrapper with publishers printed price on front inside flap. Very light signs of handling to the edges otherwise the dustwrapper is near fine with vibrant colour tone and no fading. Protected in removable archival sleeve to preserve condition. Synopsis

The Steam House is a Jules Verne novel recounting the travels of a group of British colonists in the Raj in a wheeled house pulled by a steam-powered mechanical elephant. Jules Verne uses the mechanical house as a plot device to have the reader travel in ninetheenth century India. The descriptions are interspersed with historical information and social commentary.
