Originally published in 1957 by Frederick Muller. Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. For many years Arthur C. Clarke, along with Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asmiov, were considered the 'Big Three' of science fiction writing. The Deep Range is based on a short story that was originally published in the American pulp magazine Argos. It tells the tale of a futuristic sub-mariner who catches an animal similar to the kraken. The work also makes reference to Herman Melville's novel Moby-Dick. The work was first published in 1957 but went out of print for a considerable amount of time before being reprinted by Gollancz as part of their Science Fiction Series. Condition: In a red cloth binding in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally very smart with some slight wear to the extremities. Very slightly cocked. Foyles booksellers label to front pastedown. Dustwrapper is generally smart with some very mild wear and sunning to the extremities. Slight spotting and handling marks to the wrap. Internally generally firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with just the odd spot and some mild age toning. Overall Condition: Near Fine.
