About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1931. Hardcover. 8vo. Green cloth with white lettering. x, 319pp. Good plus. Spine somewhat sunned and a bit delicate at head of spine, else tight-hinged and internally nice. First edition of this biography of U.S. naval officer and commodore Stephen Decatur (1779-1820) -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to front flyleaf is the original mailing envelope for the Typed Note Signed from Anthony contained therein, 1p (lettersheet), 5½" X 8½", Langhorne, PA, 30 November 1931. Addressed to H.D. Trevillian. Very good. Original folds. Anthony writes this admirer that he "should be glad to inscribe your DECATUR if you card to send it to me here," then notes: "It has been good fun to do the book, the reviewers have been kind, and a request such as yours brings pleasure both peculiar and personal. When a book can make a friend it is a success. I am at your service...." Boldly signed in black ink.
