Best edition, substantially enlarged over the first edition of 1850-51; 7 volumes, 8vo, 2 folding frontispiece maps, later full polished tan calf, red and black morocco labels on gilt decorated spines, marbled endpapers and edges; slightest rubbing of the extremities; generally fine and handsome.

1840. A 10 1/2" x 8 1/4" pressed board box with applied lithograph on the front cover depicting two young women musing while standing arm in arm in a rose garden. The surprise within the box is 20 trinket boxes each 2 5/8" x 1 1/2". Each pressed board box is covered with embossed gilt paper with an applied litho on the top of predominantly a woman or women posed in outdoor scenes. Two of the boxes depicting courting couples. One is in the style of the Marie Taglioni fairy. Each box designed with the sole purpose of retaining ones tiny keepsakes and treasures. A joy to be received by any young woman. One box with-3 corner repair. Light warping from storage in dry environment.

First edition. Printed for Henry Colburn, Conduit Street, Hanover Square. London. 1816. 4to. xiii, bl., (2), 370pp. Folding map, 5 hand coloured tissue guarded plates. Later half calf, spine in six compartments with raised banding, gilt lettering and motifs, marbled boards, new endpapers. Short detachment of tissue guard and title page to base. Very occasional spotting. A lovely volume.
Richard Tully was the British Consul at Tripoli from 1783 to 1793, and, according to the preface, these letters were written by his sister; and attributed to his sister-in-law in the second and third editions. The author's identity has always been a mystery: there is no record of a sister, nor of another female family member residing in Tripoli apart from Mr Tully's wife and two daughters. The final entry is dated April 30, 1795, Gibraltar. It reads: "Since you must have had my letters with the journal of Tripoli". A rare and highly sought-after western stereoview showing a group of Ute males in front of the photographer's studio on Pike's Peak Avenue in Colorado Springs circa 1875. Most of the men are holding weapons; one of them has both a Maynard Carbine (the first one with a folding sight) and a Colt Model 1860 army revolver. This stereoview is from the collection of Robert N. Dennis, who was one of the most important stereoview collectors in the U. S. The New York Public Library's "Robert N. Dennis Collection" includes more than 70,000 stereoviews from his collection, many of which can be viewed on the library's website. The albumen prints are clean and bright, with very good contrast. Bound in green, blue and white cloth with gold lettering. A uthor's signature has been tipped onto the front fly. The subject of t he book, C.J. Jones, has also signed the copy below Grey's tipped-in s ignature. The front endpaper has "Signed by 'The Last Plainsmen'" penc illed at the upper left corner. Under Zane Grey's signature is written "One of America's greatest Authors" in blue ink. Illustrated with bla ck & white photos by Grey. 8vo (8 1/2" x 5 1/2") size, 314pp. A Very G ood copy. The cloth covers are mildly faded and dull and show some rub bing to the edges. Small frays to the spine tips. Moderate soiling to spine and covers. Light foxing to the upper edges of a few pages and a few other pages have been roughly opened else content is clean, unmar ked and reasonably tight. .
