About This Item

WREDE, Patricia C[ollins]. Dealing with Dragons. The Enchanted Forest Chronicles Book One. San Diego: Jane Yolen Books/Harcourt Brace Jovanovich [1990]. 8vo, xii 212pp. Green quarter-cloth stamped in silver with pale green boards. Spine ends lightly rubbed, lower front corner worn, upper edge of front board has a few spots, else an internally clean, bright copy in original color pictorial dust jacket by Caldecott Medalist Trina Schart Hyman. First edition. The first book in The Enchanted Forest Chronicles. Princess Cimorene is frustrated that her royal family won't allow her to study fencing, cooking, magic or economics. So, desperate to escape her boring life, she runs away to become the princess of a very very powerful, very fascinating dragon named Kazul. Filled with humor, witches, wizards, jinn, a stone prince, and a death-dealing talking bird, this is the delightful beginning to a series about a princess who chooses her own fate.

Synopsis

Cimorene, the daughter of a very proper king, runs away and becomes the princess of a very powerful dragon, Kazul. “A decidedly diverting novel with plenty of action and many slightly skewed fairy-tale conventions that add to the laugh-out-loud reading pleasure and give the story a wide appeal.”-- Booklist

Reviews

On Oct 24 2011, Howes said:
I just loved this book and the three which come afterwards. I love dragons having first encountered them in mythology and then through Anne McCaffrey's The Dragonriders of Pern series. I've shared them with a friend of mine and we can hardly wait to re-read them all. This appeals to me even though I am well out of childhood.
