About This Item
City Lights Books, San Francisco, 1964; First Edition; 12mo, 116 pages; illustrated. Daniel Moore’s first book, with cover art and in-text illustrations by the poet. Moore at a later date came to renounce written poetry and established the "Floating Lotus Magic Opera Company" in San Francisco, which offered free live stage productions to audiences at Berkeley’s Hinkel Park. In 1970, as a result of a meeting with religious leader Abdalqadir as-Sufi, he adopted the religion of Islam, changed his name to Abdal-Hayy, and went to live in North Africa, remaining there twenty years before returning to the United States and taking up residence in Philadelphia, where he resumed the written word. His published works thereafter are considerable. First edition, in wraps, of which only 1,950 copies were printed. A small hardback edition of 50 was issued simultaneously. Near Fine, clean, crisp, and bright. Dazzling psychedelic cover illustration. A beautiful copy.
