Inscribed: Robert Frost Springfield March 8 1917, on the title page. Frost's first book of poetry. Blue cloth printed in gilt, very light rubbing to corners and spine ends, good hinges, sound text block, clean pages, no other names or markings. The mylar protected dustjacket has the 75 crossed out and replaced with 100 on the front and spine, two old masking tape repairs to the front joint and along the rear flap edge to hold the dustjacket together, spine darkened a chipped due to the repairs, "A" from the title chipped away at spine head, dates in pancil below title on front panel. . First US Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/Fair. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

Portfolio with complete text and 8 etchings, printed by Stephen Sholinsky at Stem Graphics, New York, and published by Associated American Artists, New York. Each etching signed by Bishop and numbered I/VII. Publisher's gray clamshell cloth box, upper cover and spine lettered in gilt. One of seven sets of artist's proofs, with each of the 8 etchings signed and numbered by Bishop, a groundbreaking twentieth-century social realist. Upon packing up her Union Square studio in 1983, Bishop discovered a small group of original copper printing plates from 1930-1959 which had only been used for one or two proofs and had otherwise not been printed. As the colophon relates: "Until this printing, only proofs of these images were ever printed. This printing was done on Rives Heavyweight paper by Stephen Sholinsky of Stem Graphics, New York . . . Beautiful coloured-lithographic panorama, as issued in its original decorated cloth boards: the series of 24 connected panels combine to illustrate Psalm 104, forming a continuous panorama over three-and-a-half metres in total. This copy is unusually fine; where seen, these fragile works more commonly display significant wear. The work has been featured in some detail online, testament to its visual impact (see for example a handsome commentary including a full reproduction at the Bridwell Library of Southern Methodist University in the USA). The panorama begins with an image of the psalmist, King David, covering his head in reverence to the Lord; at the end, he appears again, wearing a crown and playing his harp within his palace in Jerusalem. The remainder of the panorama consists of various landscapes teeming with life, as described in the psalm, and includes a scene showing the "leviathan" or whale. Prestigious 19th century "Diamond" edition of the works of Alessandro Manzoni, including I Promessi Sposi (The Betrothed), etc, all housed in a hand-made wooden box of Milanese craftsmanship of the 1920s, decorated with bas-relief figures, with the title carved in relief on the front panel. The box is open to the front exhibiting the gilt-titled spines of the small volumes, and the upper panel is hinged so it can be tilted up for access to the volumes. Some discoloration, and loss of the bas-relief carving on the upper surface.
