About This Item

STEVENSON, Robert Louis. David Balfour. Being Memoirs of the Further Adventures of David Balfour at Home and Abroad. With Pictures by N.C. Wyeth. NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1924. 4to, xviii 356pp. Black cloth with spine stamped in gilt and color pictorial label affixed to front. Color pictorial endpapers; 10 color plates. Spine ends and corners worn, spine and upper inch of rear cover a bit sunned, cover label lightly scratched, light soiling to rear. Nonetheless, an internally clean, tight copy with color plates all bright.

First Wyeth-illustrated edition. The sequel to Stevenson's classic novel Kidnapped, first published in 1893. Continuing the story of David Balfour, this tale (published in the UK as Catriona) follows the titular character through a series of false imprisonments, prison breaks, betrayals, introduction into polite society, and eventually marriage. N.C. Wyeth's masterful watercolors are a true delight and wonderfully capture the action and drama of the story.
