Stanley, best remembered for finding Dr. Livingstone, was the greatest journalist-explorer of the nineteenth century. This book tells the harrowing story of his third expedition to central Africa, facing nearly insurmountable obstacles and dangers passing through the almost impenetrable jungle of the great Congo Forest. Stanley set off with 646 men but only 246 survived. The expedition helped lead to the foundation of British East Africa, and in along the way, the Ruwenzori mountain range and Lake Albert Edward Nyanza were discovered.
