First published in 1946, this is one of the "Essay Index Reprint Series" from the Books for Libraries Press. Foreword by Catharine Bamman. Signed by the author on the front free end paper as follows: "This book, via Grace Denton Esser is for Frances Rich - one of the few people it was made for, and one of the few who can understand its meaning - Warmly, Merle Armitage, December 1973". Grace Denton Esser was a contemporary of both Frances Rich and Merle Armitage working as a concert and theatrical manager. Francis Rich was a sculptor of some note from the midwest and the daughter of Irene Rich. Francis Rich's library seal is blind stamped on the front free end paper, twice on the half title page and an 'offset stamping ghost' shows faintly on the title page. Otherwise the interior is very clean while the externals show mild shelf wear with scuff marks on the back board. A handsome book with a quite interesting and intriguing inscription and association.; Signed by Author .
