Description:
London: Constable, [1968]., 1968. First edition. First edition. Inscribed by the author on the front fly leaf to renowned London art dealer, John Baskett, in which Potter disclaims any relationship between Baskett and the novel's protagonist Rowlandson Jones. Also laid-in is a card signed by Potter suggesting a plaque to Rowly in St. Paul's in Covent Garden. Fine in a price-clipped dust jacket. A shady art dealer and collector of fine books, who has a single-minded devotion to the works of Thomas Rowlandson, and aids his research by stealing original Rowlandson drawings from the great libraries of the world. He fears that his magnum opus will not be finished as he nears death, hampered by a nagging wife and the murder of the young assistant with whom he had been having an affair.
