About This Item

New York: Grosset and Dunlap, 1937. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Later Printing. 8vo. 295 pp. Black boards decorated in red on the front panel and spine. The book itself has the original publisher's name, William Morrow, on the spine and on the title page; only the dustjacket identifies this as a Grosset and Dunlap publication. Edge and corner wear on the dustjacket with a bit of fading on the spine; no interior markings but some aging in the endpapers. This was the first Douglas Selby mystery. The little clergyman had died peacefully in bed in the Madison Hotel. But Douglas Selby, recently elected District Attorney, suspected there was more to this death than meets the eye, and soon knew that something was definitely wrong. So he finds himself faced not only with a wily murderer, but with virulence from a hostile press, reluctant witnesses, and a film star unwilling to explain why she was on the spot..
