Good minus condition: wear to spine tips and corners with some cloth missing; a little cloth missing in middle of spine as well and someone colored the holes black or brown; slight scuffing to boards; light soiling to top and fore edge of text block; straight; hinges strong; slight foxing to front matter; pages otherwise very nice. A good copy, the spine of which has a little wear at the ends, the back cover has a two-inch ink stain, two small-pea size stains are on the fore-edges, and there is some heavy foxing at the front of the book, but not too much in the text and very little in the text later on.. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

First U.S. edition; 451 p., unmarked but with faint stains at upper margins and small splatters on upper margins of pref., and former owner's name is on front paste-down; one of front end pages torn away; frontis. engraving is portrait of John Philpott Curran, with tissue guard; paper strong but age-toned and foxed; brown boards scuffed and bumped with some fabric missing from mid-spine, removing a portion of gilt-lettered title; volume square but beginning to crack between pp. 214-215. Wonderful primary source for those interested in late 18th c. -early 19th c. Irish history.
