[6], 184 pp. Burgundy-coloured cloth, white lettering on spine (minor shelfwear, slight bumping to couple corners, minor spotting to spine), w/ d.j. cover art of skeletal hand pointing to framed sign by H.A. Peace (minor sunning to spine, edgewear, tear to upper fore-edge of back cover, dustsoiling), VG/G- copy. First American edition of this intricate Inspector Cockrill mystery set in an English country house, published as “Suddenly at his Residence” in the UK. Brand (1907-1988) launched her mystery career with Death in High Heels, which she had originally begun writing as a former of revenge against a severely disliked coworker.
