New York, James Pott & Company, 1901, hardcovers, xxiv-314, xv-364, xvii-366 pp, First American Edition, First Printing, Good condition, no dustjacket as issued. Straight tight and firmly bound, front and rear hinges on vols 1 and 2 just starting but very strong, vols 1 and 2 appear to have had a blank, free front endpaper carefully removed, a few random spots to boards and spine with a bit of disturbance to embossed gilt spine titles, gilt Fleur-de-lis to front boards, top edges gilt. Tissue-protected frontisportraits of; Francis 1, King of France, The Chevalier Bayard, and Diana of Poitiers. Each volume contains a Preface by Adolphe Cohn. An elegant set despite a few flaws.
