Fully bound in brown calf's leather, five raised bands on spine, gilt lettering and decorations, with St Paul's Preparatory School, Colet Court, circular-stamped on front panel. All edges marbled, marbled endpapers. 12mo. Boards a little rubbed, especially on corners and spine ends, short open tear in leather at spine head with leather crumbling, rear upper corner heavily bumped with some surrounding indentations. Prize presentation plate, a little spotted, on front paste down, indicating the volume was awarded to R Warde in 1906. Gutter cracked ahead of blank page, which has a small corner curl, else internally neat and clean.

Cover is somewhat soiled. 1" tear to center of rear outer hinge, with matching scuff marks on the rear cover. Looks as if the book layd & was rubbed on something metal. . Hinges are tight. Owner's inscription (dated 1898) on half-title. Lots of drawings & photos on how to keep kids out of trouble outdoors. Ow to keep rats & mice, & what kind of a toy basket to keep nestling birds in. Not exactly correct stuff these days.; 5x7 1/2" .
