Most of the notes have appeared in intervals before during 1938 and 1939 in the New Statesman and Nation. The first edition, a scarce copy to be found in any edition. Richly illustrated in text with numerous photographs in black and white by Bryan and Norman Sherwood. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. With Elsa Shirley's bookplate to the front pastedown.
