Description:
London: Michael Joseph , 1939. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 10" by 7.5" . Bryan and Norman Westwood. A bright copy of this scarce first edition regarding the English countryside, by Vita Sackville-West. Vita Sackville-West shares her observation on life in the English countryside, focussing on different parts of the year, a flower, a vineyard, and other details that makes this read absolutely charming. Most of the notes have appeared in intervals before during 1938 and 1939 in the New Statesman and Nation. The first edition, a scarce copy to be found in any edition. Richly illustrated in text with numerous photographs in black and white by Bryan and Norman Sherwood. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. With Elsa Shirley's bookplate to the front pastedown. The cloth is faintly spotted, with a minor damp mark on the rear board. Internally, firmly bound.… Read More
