Though he would later turn toward more conservative stances, he was prominent for his positions in support of the American rebels, in support of the right of voters rather than the House of Commons to determine representatives in disputed elections, and his instrumental work in gaining the right for publishers to print verbatim accounts of Parliamentary debates. Complete in five volumes. With portrait frontispiece and three facsimile letters, two of which are folding. Some offsetting to the type and portrait plate, and some foxing to the folding plates only. Bookplates on the front pastedown of each volume. Joints discretely reinforced by a conservator. Half calf over marbled paper boards, with remnants of red leather labels on the spines. Very Good binding.
