Corpus Iuris Civilis

1569 Corpus Juris Civilis Codicis Institutes Justinian LAW Byzantine HUGE FOLIOS

"Freedom is the natural ability of everyone to do what he likes, unless it is prohibited by law or by force."

Justinian I

In 530 A.D., Emperor Justinian I commissioned the rewriting of all Roman Law, which included case law, civil law, and a guide for helping juries interpret laws. Some of the most important laws that Justinian helped established were those that protected women from being forced into prostitution, and the severe punishment for rapists. These helped create a Byzantine culture that had not yet established a firm structure.

This 1569 edition was published in Lyon and edited by Antonio Leconte.
