At the time there were only four understrength regiments for him to command and he strove mightily to build them into a substantial cavalry component of the Continental Army. Despite his efforts and a generally good performance during the war, they never became a truly effective force, mostly because they could never be brought up to proper strength. In 1780 and the 1st and 3rd Light Dragoons were amalgamated. Light Dragoons were present at most of the important engagements, especially in the South. The combined 1st, 3rd and 4th Regiments, along with the French Lauzun’s Legion served in the Yorktown campaign at Gloucester Point fighting against Tarleton’s and Simcoe’s Legions. With nineteen color plates by the artist Steve Palatka and one by Bruce Bassett-Powell, this volume contributes another detailed reference work on the uniforms of the Continental Army.. Soft Cover. As New. Illus. by Palatka, Steven. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
