The 19th Century American historian overcame blindness to become pre-eminent in his field; these works represent high points in his career. With rather small maps of Mexico and Peru. Volume wrapped in yellow variant jacket. --- In Toledano G6 spine / red cloth / gilt-stamped ML cover hex logo / spine titling & decorations in gilt and black / blank GA style endpapers / dust jacket style Gh, verso is blank. Likely published c.1966 (no publication date appears in book). ML #G29.1. --- A weakened front hinge has been carefully reinforced prior to this listing, and with prior owner's inked name to front free endpaper, otherwise a sound, clean, tightly-bound copy. Interior tightly-bound, clean and unmarked. Dust jacket with small chips and tears but remains bright and mostly intact and protected in removable mylar wrapper.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xxxvi, 1288 pages .
