The methodology used in this reserch is described in some detail. Variables related to the individual and to the parish in which he grew up and was educated are isolated. Achievers tended to have middle class origins and to be well educated. Parishes in which they were born or educated were characterized by prosperity and urbanization. The research was facilitated by computer technology.
