London: W. Rayner (1735-37) Book. Poor. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Folio (270 x 410mm). Complete in two volumes; vignettes, initials, frontispiece and 150 copper engravings, 6 folded plates and maps. Full leather cloth, gilt title to the spine. Title page printed in red and black, text divided into two columns. Monumental work richly decorated in spectacular plates. Title page, frontispiece and folded plates reinforced on modern paper, in fair condition, some of them with small losses, lacking 'Map of the Holy Land divided into' and half of one more, 'A Map of the Sacred Geography' is in good condition, separately map 'The Holy Land adapted to the Scriptures'. Some plates have been previous repair to closed tears, a few still have minor tears, the vast majority in good condition, minor wear to extremities, soiled; heavy wear to covers, rubbing, covers scuffed; cracked joint but still holding, in volume II spine amateur sewn with thread, chipped corners and spine edges; in volume I lacking last page(pages?), volume II lacking preliminary and ended pages, including title page, some pages creased. Overall the books are in poor to fair condition, however there is no missing copperplates. Rare books..
