Index. Description: Published by authority of the Secretary of War for use in the Army of the United States. Government Printing office books usually have a print date code at the rear; in this instance, there is none; just the date on the book cover and title page. From the introduction: ''The following compendium of Regulations, Decisions, and Circulars is prepared and published for the information and guidance of officers serving in the Quartermaster's Department.'' Many samples of specific forms and vouchers are provided; directions for original and triplicate. A random sampling of interesting tidbits follows: regulations for Ferries, Turnpikes, and Bridges; for Street Car and Ferry Tickets; Weights and measurements for a hospital tent or crate of bacon. A palace car, horse, holds 18 horses; an ordinary stock car from 18 to 20 horses (with the assurance that the closer they are packed, the more comfortably they will travel). And, in case you've wondered: for shelter, shooting galleries, ranges for small-arms target practice, repairs, and expense incident thereto, ten thousand dollars is allotted (not sure how long the time span).
