About This Item
The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:
Ellis Peters: Peters is a pen name used by Edith Pargeter when writing mystery and crime novels. Most of those were in two series, the Borther Cadfael Mysteries (21 books) and the George Felse mysteries (15 books). Pargeter used three other pen names, as well as publishing under her own name, in a variety of genres. Altogether, Pargeter published over 85 books. She died in 1995. This is the fifteenth Brother Cadfael novel.
Dick Clark and Paul Francis: A novelty book, this appears to be the only novel written by either. Both have non fiction books to their credit, although sorting them out is a challenge because it appears there are other authors with these names. Yes, this is the Dick Clark of "American Bandstand".
Charlotte & Aaron Elkins: Edgar award winner and two-time Agatha award winner, Aaron Elkins created the forensic anthropologist crime solver Gideon Oliver, appearing in eighteen novels, and museum curator crime solver Chris Norgren, appearing in three books, because who ever heard of police solving crimes. Elkins also teamed up with his wife, Charlotte, on two additional series. This is the first of the five novel Lee Ofsted series. Ofsted is described as a struggling female professional golfer. (I would imagine all the dead people she encounters is part of why she struggles on the golf tour.)
