About This Item
New York: Putnams, 1891. First Edition. Octavo. xiv, 187 pages, 2 folded maps. Originally was planned as a magazine article consequent to the raising by General Joseph E. Johnston of certain personal claims. Gustave T. Beauregard was a Creole Louisianan who after leading the attack on Fort Sumpter, oversaw the fortification earthworks at Manassas Junction. Like Lee and Longstreet he was involved in major battles throughout the war. The famed Eyrich's Bookstore on Canal Street, with their label on front pastedown, was the center of intellectual activity in the post-Civil War era. Later sold by Arthur H. Clark of Cleveland, Ohio with their label also on front pastedown. A remarkable copy in very nice condition with a few spots of rubbing and a bit of fading to spine. In clear mylar cover.
