With double page county map and numerous illustrations. The binding has gilt titles and gilt bands and the endpapers are new. With title page in red and black inks, dedication to 'The Nobility and Gentry', Preface to the Reader; double page map and text with full and in text illustrations (140pp). No index or errata. The binding is in fine condition. The contents have occasional marking (the odd mark, page browning - particularly to edges); and occasional loss to corners without text loss (title page - edge of top corner, p123 - same, p123 and 125 - sm loss at edge). One page has a small repaired tear to the top margin. The map is complete and in good condition, being relaid on paper to support the edges, which were fragile. The map of Paris and 60 engravings (complete) are generally clean, but some light foxing and soil. Beautifully engraved plates ca.1820, engraved by Couche fils, depict well known monuments in Paris as well as other parts of France. Most plates are of Paris. Now in a mylar wrap in the French style. John Major, London.,1824. SECOND MAJOR EDITION. Illustrated with 14 copper engraved plates and several woodcuts throughout the text. Two small patches of browning affecting the top outer corner of ten leaves, otherwise a very good copy in fine nineteenth century binding by Thomson of Exeter, with binders ticket on front paste down. Full tan calf, raised bands, compartments fully gilt. Red title label, gilt. Boards with double blind ruled and one gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. School prize plate on front paste down shows that this copy was given as a prize in January 1842. Previous owners name(dated 1881) and ink name stamp on blank endpapers. Front hinge neatly repaired. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in an attractive nineteenth century binding.:

Hinges cracked but still firm. Edges rubbed and bit scuffed but still a tight and well bound copy of this interesting title which describes a Collection of protests made in the House of Lords.

Hand-colored plates. All 20 plates present. Condition is VERY GOOD ; mild edge wear, clean, spine leather is sunned to brown and there is a small split along the front joint but the binding is quite solid. Most likely a later 19th or early 20th c. rebinding, as the margins have been trimmed, with loss to some of the titles of the plates. Text is very clean and bright, and all the hand-colored plates are excellent. Hist. RGR.

There are a couple of barely perceptible stains on the rear board. The spine ends are gently bumped, and there are a couple of small indentations in the top edges of the covers. The spine is very subtly rolled. There is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endsheet. The rear endsheet has several small light stains.
