About This Item
Dublin, Ireland: Golden Eagle Books. Hardcover. Good. 8vo 8" - 9" tall. A perfectly serviceable reference copy of an item that is scarce in the trade; nothing fancy, but complete and sturdy. Forward cock to spine, bound in the original publisher's off-white cloth covers, moderately soiled and mildly worn, but clean and unmarked of interior. Date of publication not stated, but appears to be 1948 and a First Edition though not so stated. The author was born into the tight-knit community of the Mill Row, on the outskirts of Armagh, on April 3, 1920, according to Daragh Carville's homage to him. After leaving school at 14, he notes, "he worked for the Post Office as a telegram delivery boy. At around the same time, he began writing, sending stories to magazines in Ireland and America. In 1944 his story âThe Boy and the Stoneâ won a Best Short Story competition and was published in The Bell, the leading Irish literary journal of the day, edited by Sean OâFaolain," and thus began a rewarding literary career. Come Day â Go Day was his first published novel. 181 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
