The poems are arranged by geographical subject, reflective of Birney's widely travelled life. His poetry has been variously described as playful, satirical, abrasive, and experimental. The second volume includes an index of the poems, and a note on the author. This set is near fine with light sunning on the spines.

Interiors clean and crisp.Set held in a lightly sunned slipcase with gilt lettering, partly rubbed off, and a dampstain to the heel which has dissolved some of the glue. Birney's poetry won two Governor General's Awards and was acclaimed as one of Canada's top two poets by both Northrop Frye and Al Purdy, who disagreed on the other top Canadian poet. .

Despite being about a controversial subject (euthenasia), Birney's poetry was taught in schools. In turn, he taught Canada's first creative writing program at the University of British Columbia. .

Slipcase has bit of corner fraying at both top and bottom lip. Vol. I is flatsigned with Birney's split level signature on the half-title page in blue ink. Vol. II has flatsigning on full title page.
