No. 4 deals with the cultivation of land for agriculture, no. 8 with raising and processing flax. Alexandre Ant—nio Vandelli (Lisbon, 1784-Rio de Janeiro, 1859), was the son of the distinguished Italian-born botanist Domingos Vandelli. He served as guarda-m—r of the Academia Real das Scincias de Lisboa, Intendente Geral das Minas e Metaes, and was a member of the commission for the reform of weights and measures. He left Portugal for political reasons in 1834, entering the service of the Brazilian Empire. *** Fonseca, Pseud—nimos p. 183: attributing the work to Alexandre Antonio Vandelli. On the author, see Innocncio I, 29; and VIII, 30 (without mention of this work). Conefrey, Jornais, sŽries e peri—dicos portugueses 1826-1834 pp. 52, 55: noting that the Biblioteca Municipal do Porto has issues 1-14 (but a note in their catalogue says nos. 1-16 were issued), and the Biblioteca Nacional only issues 1-4. Silva Pereira, O Jornalismo portuguez p. 26, giving the dates 1831-1832 but not specifying the number of issues. Not in Universidade de Coimbra, Publica›es peri—dicas portuguesas. Porbase locates three copies at the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal, calling for 16 issues (1831-1832), but without stating whether all copies are complete runs. Copac repeats the copy at the British Library.
