About This Item

New York: Random House, 1965. Sixth Printing. Near Fine/Very Good +. Inscribed on the half-title "for Barbara Cushman with all good wishes Truman Capote." A Near Fine copy of the book in Very Good+ dust jacket. Jacket with a chip from the crown, otherwise presenting well. There are plenty of signed first editions floating around from the Koch and Brentano's Club, but authentic inscriptions are quite scarce on this title. At its initial release, In Cold Blood catapulted the already infamous Capote into an even higher authorial strata, and it earned him praise as the inventor of a new genre: the non-fiction novel. Drawing on over 8,000 pages of notes and interviews, Capote constructed a chilling true-life tale of a quadruple homicide in a small Midwestern town, examining the town members affected by the deaths as well as psychological examinations of the killers themselves. The New York Times immediately praised the book: "a masterpiece...agonizing, terrible, possessed, proof that the times, so surfeited with disasters, are still capable of tragedy.". Near Fine in Very Good + dust jacket.

In Cold Blood is a 1966 book by American author Truman Capote. The book details the brutal 1959 murders of Herbert Clutter, a wealthy farmer from Holcomb, Kansas, and his wife and two of their children. When Capote learned of the quadruple murder before the killers were captured, he decided to travel to Kansas and write about the crime.
