Capote wrote to Thomas regarding the film adaptation of In Cold Blood in April 1967, noting "[John] Forsythe has an absolutely uncanny resemblance to [Kansas Bureau of Investigation's Alvin] Dewey. And the two killers too. They are so much like the real figures that it is positively frightening" (Kennedy). A signed limited edition of 500 copies was also released in 1965. Lisa Kennedy, "How 'Blood' circulated in the media of the '60s", The Denver Post, 8 February 2006.
