Out of this threatening atmosphere emerged the Coast Watchers, a daring group of men often working from enemy-occupied territory, whose heroism influenced the final outcome of the war. Their radioed warnings served to smash many Japanese attacks, sink their ships, bring down their aircraft. It was the Coast Watchers who provided the 'tip-off' that enabled Australian and U.S. forces to hold Guadalcanal against the Japanese offensive, a victory crucial to the Pacific War.
