About This Item
San Francisco: Pisani Printing for Folies Bergere, 1940. Pamphlet. Season's program, [16]p., coated alkaline paperstock stapled into 12x9 inch wraps, b&w guts with four fullpage color plates: cover (by "Nationally Known Artist Irving Sinclair", evidently American, which we had guessed from the geometrically round exposed breast), followed inside by an Acme Beer ad (blond in purple with a "dietetically non-fattening" Acme close at hand) then a genuinely sexy Coca Cola ad and a rather martial Chesterfield ad. M. Fischer gets a b&w portrait page to himself, a plump severe older man billed in the title line as "Internationally Celebrated Producer of the Folies Bergere". We are unsure if any of the Parisian entertainers made it to the Bay Area, whether young female posers or older male jokesters. At least one of the latter is known to us from his later appearances on the Ed Sullivan show, namely Senor Wences. As far as nearly-nude cuties, only one is shown, and she belongs not to Paris but to our own Frisco, one of the "Embassy Eyefuls" at Tiny's Embassy Club (Fisherman's Wharf). Ads are mostly for local stuff.
