About This Item

Self Published, Not Stated, No date. Edition Unstated. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Photographic. 340 g.; IV, 88 pages, last two pages blank, (intentionally), preface by authors. The text is illustrated with numerous black and white photographs from the Crawford family archives. Blue coloured boards with hand written titles to the front panel. A little rubbing and bumping to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and to the corners. The cloth has picked up dustiness and other marks and there is a faint sticker mark to the top edge of the front board. Gift inscription to the free front end paper, taking up the majority of this page. A few handling marks throughout the book. " The year: 1890. The steamship Nebraska pulls out of the Clyde on its way from Glasgow to New York. On board: Jeanie Donelson Carswell, 20, who with her mother and sister has left behind her native firth to join her father, William's Sproul Carswell, in St. Louis. Then, two years later, she will meet David Crawford, who, after his mother's death in 1888, peddled a bike from Slateford to Glasgow, boarded a ship, and left Scotland never to return. It is Jeanie Donelson Carswell (Mama], and David Crawford (Papa], our cherished mother and father, with which the story deals -- a slice of family history. The Crawford lineage is indeed traced back to the 1179, but it is 1900s which is our hour, a time of growing up in a large family and adulthood in a fast changing America. Looking back at the 60 years of a generations family journal means living through a swoop events -- from crystal sets to radio sets to television....." -- from the preface page 1. Loosely inserted is a oversize illustration of "Clan Crawford -- Local 3, In-Law -- Out Law party -- 1944" -- illustrations are caricatures. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
