About This Item

Conway, Arkansas: UCA Press, 1995. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 8vo. Brown leatherette boards. xi, 411 pp. B&W photos. Spine slightly tilted. A few bumps to extremities of dust jacket. Fine overall. Sixteen-year-old Phil Stephenson served in two crack outfits - the 13th Arkansas Infantry, which Pat Cleburne favored because of his Irishmen, and the 5th Company, Washington Artillery, perhaps the most exclusive battery in the Army of Tennessee. He fought in actions large and small from Belmont to Resaca to Spanish Fort. With clarity and scrupulous honesty, Phil depicts the day-to-day life of a Confederate private under rthe command of Bragg, Johnston, and Hood.
