Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. The City and the Stars is a complete rewrite of Clarke's first novel, Against the Fall of Night, written by Clarke to show the improvement in his writing style. Condition: In a blue cloth binding in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally smart, with some wear to the extremities and some slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Book is slightly cocked. Hinges slightly strained but firm. Dustwrapper is sound with chipping and closed tears to the extremities, including some loss to the head and tail of the spine. Handling marks to the wrap. Evidence of adhesive tape removal to the flyleaves. Internally generally firmly bound. Scattered spotting, heavier to the first and last few pages and the fore-edge. Overall Condition: Good in a Good Only dustwrapper.
