London: The Architectural Press, 1951. First edition. Hardback. Very good/Fair. 1151 8vo. Described on the title page as "the building development of the City, the damage suffered in the years 1940-1945, and the proposal solves for reconstruction as incorporated in the Final Report of the planning consultants, C.H.Holden, LITT. D., FRIBA, and W.G. Holford, FRIBA, MTPI, , presented, in 1947, to the Court of Common Council". With a foldout aerial photograph of London as it was just at the end of the war, many other illustrations, and numerous coloured fold out maps illustrating proposals for redevelopment. The section on war damage includes many excellent photographs of the damage. For those of us familiar with London as it is now, and resigned to the damage caused to post-war Britain by so many of these planned "improvements", to look at the maps and see some of the proposals which, mercifully, were rejected is quite startling. The consultants' final report occupies pages 265 to 320. Condition notes: A little wear to the boards, but otherwise the book is in excellent condition. The dustjacket is rather knocked about, price clipped, chipped and with a previous owner's name in ink to the front. Considerable loss to the back section of the dustjacket.
