Description:
Published by Victor Gollancz Ltd., 1980. 1st edition.. Hardback. Very Good/Very Good. Illustrated by Foreman, Michael. Very good condition in a very good dustwrapper. Blue boards, gilt title to spine. Colour & b/w illustrations. 10 x 7 ins. 24 full page colour illustrations and b/w textual illustrations throughout. A highly unusual rendering of 33 Old Testament stories by the author, who has fused the individual stories into an account of the development of the scattered Tribes of Israel, who were to build the Temple in Jerusalem; suffer a decline, culminating in the destruction of the City of Gold. Each story is re-told with vigor from a different contemporary perspective, as would have been the case in the earliest oral traditions before these stories were written down. A Carnegie Medal winner. Minor foxing to top edge of text block and endpapers. Pictorial dustwrapper is lightly edge-worn.
