New York, New York, U.S.A: Hurst & Company. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. 4 3/4" X 6 3/4. FAIR / NO DUST JACKET. [nd] possibly circa 1914-1915 based on publisher history. [2], 189 pp. Text clean and unmarked. Pages slightly toned, very minor foxing. White cloth boards with vellum at front, velum decorated with an illustration of four pink roses at the top, a light green border, and dark green lettering. Lettered in dark green at spine. Boards lightly soiled, corners rubbed, lower front corner worn to boards, spine top and tail rubbed. Joints and hinges good, binding firm.

Synopsis

The full title of Charles Dickens' most famous work is technically A Christmas Carol in Prose, Being a Ghost-Story of Christmas. This novella was published on December 19, 1843, and the first edition run of 6000 copies were sold out by Christmas Eve of that year. The publication of the first edition was fraught with complications, and even though the book was received to positive reviews, profits of the book fell far below Dickens' expectations, and the financial strain caused rifts between Dickens and the original publisher, Chapman & Hall.
