Faber and Faber Limited, London and Heirloom & Howard Limited, England Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. English text.; Hardcover (with dust jacket); VOLUME 1: published by Faber and Faber, London, 1974, ISBN: 0571098118, 23 x 29 cm, 4.2 kg, 1034 pages with black-and-white illustrations and a few in colour.; Used books with signs of wear on the dust jacket. Interior in very good condition. The dust jackets are now protected with clearcovers.; OUT OF PRINT.; The major part of David Howard's book consists of a dictionary of armorial services painted in China for the British market between 1695 and 1820. Pieces of nearly 2,000 services are illustrated by styles chronologically, the arms blazoned and the familes described; and in all 2900 services are recorded. Perhaps the greatest value of the book to the collector lies in its extensive analyses of this ware.; VOLUME 2: published by Heirloom & Howard Limited, England, 2003, ISBN: 0954438906, 23.5 x 30.3 cm; 4.3 kg; 904 pages with 1,880 colour illustrations, 1,500 armorial services described.; Used book with signs of wear on the dust jacket and exterior text block. Interior in very good condition. The dust jacket is now protected with a clearcover.; The material in Chinese Armorial Porcelain II is almost entirely additional to the first volume, containing a new introduction and four new chapters on aspects of the China Trade. All the appendices are revised and extended and the index of mottoes and index of services cover both volumes (the later containing an alphabetical list of over 4,000 services - more than 3,320 illustrated and 680 unillustrated - all made for the British and American market). This is an essential companion for those who own the first volume but this book certainly stands on its own and, as Garter King of Arms writes in the foreword, 'is an astounding work - destined to be a major reference source in the future'..

Jorge Welsh Research and Publishing, 2022 Book. New. Hardcover. 1st Edition. English text.; Hardcover.; 23.5 x 29.7 cm.; 1.9 Kg.; 256 pages with 229 colour and 4 black & white illustrations.; Limited edition of 400 copies.; Exibition catalogue dedicated to the theme of Japanese porcelain in the form of human and animal figures, mostly produced for the export market during the second half of the 17th and 18th centuries. The animals represented are usually found amongst Japanese iconography, whilst the human figures are inspired by Japanese cosmopolitan society, deities and legendary local heroes. The nature of the trade for Japanese porcelain has determined the rarity of these pieces, which, combined with their decorative, formal beauty, as well as their quality, made them highly appreciated in Europe, and may also have appealed to the Japanese domestic market. This catalogue presents over 100 individual pieces, of which 75 are illustrated and discussed in the catalogue, along with an introductory… Read More

This book is in good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, spine, edges and corner of the cover. There is some dog-earring on the right corner pages of the book. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
