This special edition of the Communist publication International Press Correspondence [English Edition] is a report on "The Japanese War in China", the acts of aggression against the Chinese people and their heroic struggle to defend themselves. Several articles dwell on the sufferings of the Japanese people imposed on them by their own rulers ["Peasants Without Land", "Hunger and Distress Among the Japanese Workers"]. An article titled "Protest of the Indian National Poet Rabindranath Tagore" reports that Tagore has refused to intervene on behalf of Indian merchants in Tokyo who claim they will be harmed by a movement to boycott Japanese goods. He writes, in part: "...I, and all of Asia with me, once admired Japan....But it was not long before Japan betrayed this awakening hope...And worse than its economic exploitation, worse than its territorial aggression, are the massacres which it perpetrates day after day."
