New-York: The American Tract Society, (1834)., (1834).. Good. - Small octavo [6 inches high by approximately 3-3/4 inches wide], marbled boards backed with blue cloth with a printed label on the spine. The corners of the boards are lightly rubbed. 147 pages. Illustrated with an engraved frontispiece with a tissue guard. There is a previous owner's faded notation on the front endpaper and a faded stamp "G. B. W." on the flyleaf. The tissue guard is creased & there is scattered light staining & foxing throughout. Good.
The Rev. T. H. Gallaudet was the late Principal of the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb.

Gallaudet was the principle of the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, the oldest such school in the United States. His son Edward Miner Gallaudet, co-founded the first college for deaf students, Gallaudet University. This little book includes an interesting mix of natural history, scientific, and theological discussions, written for young people. Includes an engraving depicting the sign language alphabet. Boards worn and corners trimmed; leather spine split. Last 20 pages loose, and last several pages missing (was originally 231 pages). Fair..
