About This Item
Edinburgh: Birlinn Limited, 1999. pp 317 MacGill's first novel, originally published in 1914, is based on personal memories of his life in Ireland and Scotland during the early 1900's. Very good plus paperback, a tea stain to the text block edge and a few page corners. Personal gift inscription on the half title to the Scottish author Alasdair Gray. Provenance: from the recent Glasgow dispersal sale of Alasdair Gray's library. Gray (1934-2019) is acknowledged as one of the most innovative figures in Scottish literature and culture. Painter, novelist, playwright, poet and editor, Gray frequently combined his diverse artistic talents within single works to challenge existing forms. He has been described as 'Blending satire and tragedy, realism and fantasy, his work has been credited with spurring a renaissance in Scottish literature.'
