New York London: D. Appleton & Company. Fair. 1918. Leather. This appears to be Lasker's personal copy. Inscribed and signed by someone on second endpaper: "To- Marie Louise (an excellent chess player) From Edward Lasker". Handwriting does not match examples of Lasker's handwriting found elsewhere. Edward Lasker's bookplate of himself and Mischa Elman on third endpaper, with "and Mischa Elman ax Chess" handwritten at the bottom. Printed on the bookplate, in tiny letters, is "Was die Musik für die Seele, Ist das Schach für den Verstand". Pebbled leather covers with marbled endpapers and all edges gilt. Gilt author/title on spine and front cover. Heavy wear to the extremities, especially the corners and top of spine. Covers curled. Pages lightly browned. Strong smoke odor to the pages; 16mo 6" - 7" tall; xvi, 284 pages .
